About the Coop!

The cooperative, established in recent years, provides practical and educational support for our members, while cultivating a larger vision for cooperative beekeeping and ensuring the continuing viability of honey bees.

Purpose

The idea for an actual "hands on," practical beekeeping coop developed out of the expressed needs and wishes of many beekeepers who have wanted help and advice from other beekeepers.

Member Experience

The coop includes members with over forty years of beekeeping experience, as well as members with as little as two years.

Communication

We maintain an active conversation through our internet-based chat group, where members can ask questions of other members. Upon joining the coop, you will have access to the entire archive of shared information.

Organization

MHBC is organized along the lines of a Cooperative, which assumes equal participation and involvement by all members. The MHBC is uniquely focused on practical beekeeping issues and a personal commitment by each Coop member to help other members

Vision

Currently, most MHBC members are beekeepers from the Boulder, Colorado area. The longer term vision for MHBC is to form local beekeeping groups along the Front Range and perhaps on the Western Slope of Colorado, of approximately forty to fifty members who are conveniently available to help one another. The administration and decision making of the Coop is done collectively and as a reflection of the wishes of all members. With membership levels of 40-50 people, we anticipate that the resources available to all members will be more than adequate and the amount of time required of any one member should be minimal. We have patterned our organization along the lines of how Agrarian Cooperatives have functioned in the past.
